The CAA has
published a "stand alone" CAP (CAP738) on aerodrome safeguarding
standards. CAP 738 has been prepared in consultation with the AOA and
GAAC and describes the aviation side procedures of aerodrome
safeguarding.

Joint
discussions between the CAA, the AOA and the GAAC have also led to the
publication of the following advice notes on Aerodrome
Safeguarding. These advice notes have been distributed to all planning
authorities involved in the official safeguarding of major airports
and technical sites. For most GA aerodromes the aerodrome operator is
responsible for self safeguarding under "non official" safeguarding
arrangements. The general principles set down in these advice notes
apply to all aerodromes regardless of size. Further and more detailed
guidance in relation to GA aerodrome safeguarding is available from
the GAAC.

Circular
guidance to planning authorities on official and non-official
safeguarding is contained in ODPM & DfT Circular 01/2003 which
describe the revised arrangements for aerodrome Safeguarding in
England and Wales. These documents are available on the DfT and CAA
Web Sites. The general principles of this Circular are also applicable
to all aerodromes whether officially or non-officially safeguarded.
Separate arrangements have been made for the revision of safeguarding
advice in Scotland through the Scottish Executive.
